Watch: vivo Y16 Unboxing, First Impressions, Camera Samples

OPPO
Infinix
Mobile giant vivo recently launched the Y16 in the Philippines.

Available in 64GB (PHP 7,999) and 128GB (PHP 8,499) variants, the Y16 is a style-focused smartphone boasting a durable build, large display, big battery capacity, side-mounted fingerprint reader, and the modern Android 12 operating system.

Our comment on its specs on paper? It is still using the old 2.3GHz 12nm Helio P35 octa-core processor.

The question. Are its above-mentioned selling points enough to outweigh its old and slow chip versus most competing similarly priced handsets?

Here's part 1 of our review: unboxing, first impressions, and camera samples.

As of the moment

Y16 in Drizzling Gold

So far, we liked that the vivo Y16 is boasting a nicely designed back and frame with ample storage options, large battery capacity, USB-C charging, a side-mounted fingerprint reader, and Android 12 out-of-the-box.

As expected, my comment is it is not that fast due to its use of an old processor.

But so far, this is a usable smartphone for those who really want one with a flauntable back design. Plus, despite its weak camera numbers, its actual performance is actually better than expected (expect for the near useless macro sensor).

Otherwise, look elsewhere. Maybe increase your budget a little and go for the BETTER vivo T1x priced at PHP 8,999.

Anyway, stay tuned for our full review.
