Globe cries sabotage as signal jamming hits on-site events

Globe Telecom on Friday claimed there were attempts to jam communications signals at its recent events.

Globe held a fun day of giving back at the Enchanted Kingdom on September 17 as part of the 917 GDay celebration.

In a statement, Globe said that as it has resumed holding in-person activities, the company said its network security was able to monitor and thwart attempts to jam mobile phone signals in the on-ground venues of its 917 #ExtraGDayEveryday festivities last month.

It said that at the Circuit Events Ground in Makati and the Enchanted Kingdom in Sta. Rosa, City, instances of Globe customers suddenly receiving spam texts from a rival network containing data offers were reported.

In both venues, weak to no signal levels were also experienced for a few minutes. But Globe said its team immediately fixed the issue.

Through vigilance and swift action, Globe’s security team halted attempts to spoil the fun at 917 GDay sites on September 17, a day marking Globe’s iconic 0917 mobile number prefix. Both events went smoothly despite these apparent jamming attempts, and Globe customers enjoyed the biggest GDay celebration yet, it said.

Globe's G Music Fest said about 6,000 spectators gathered at the Circuit Events Ground Makati to enjoy music and fun at experiential booths.
