MediaTek Dimensity 1080 w/ improved camera performance and efficiency now official

A new mid-range chipset has been announced by MediaTek. It is the Dimensity 1080 that has better efficiency, performance, and camera support.

The biggest change from its predecessor, Dimensity 920, is its better camera capabilities. It can now support and handle image data from sensors up to 200MP with Imagiq ISP. The last gen only supports up to 108MP. Hardware-accelerated HDR video up to 4K is also available here.

Dimensity 1080 comes with a slight boost in performance from 2.5GHz to 2.6GHz. Other than that, it has the same GPU and the chipset is still built on the 6nm process. But, it promises improved energy efficiency even if it has a slight boost in performance. You can expect battery life compared to the MediaTek Dimensity 920.

The chipset still supports sub-6GHz 5G networks, Wi-Fi 6, and the same AI Processing Unit as the Dimensity 920, and there are no additional gaming-specific capabilities as it still features HyperEngine 3.0.

MediaTek Dimensity 1080 is starting to be available for manufacturers in Q4 2022.
