According to GMA News Online, the NPC said the airline’s local unit, AirAsia Philippines, submitted a breach notification through its Data Breach Notification Management System (DBNMS) online platform on November 23. The date of discovery is November 20, it added

Per initial findings, there is no indication that there is Filipino data involved, the NPC noted.

According to reports, cybercrime group Daixin Team leaked information containing confidential data belonging to AirAsia. This exposed more than five million records online that are thought to include information on customers and employees.

AirAsia is the largest airline in Malaysia, with some 22,000 employees from 60 nationalities, and is based out of Kuala Lumpur.

We assure our guests that no sensitive data such as passwords or financial information were compromised, AirAsia Philippines said in a statement.

It also assured it is reinforcing its cybersecurity system following the incident.

Our company has added rigorous precautionary measures to prevent incidents like this from happening again, it added.

It's business as usual in AirAsia Philippines. We are working closely with the National Privacy Commission on the aforementioned incident, the company said.
