A different approach and over-preparation
In a report by CNN Philippines, DITO Chief Administrative Officer Adel Tamano said aside from existing users, they also recorded registrations from new users.
As of 7 AM today, we have a total of 408,118 registration, out of this, 6,371 are new, he said.
On Tuesday, public telecommunications entities (PTE) started the registration process for their users as stated under the SIM Registration Act.
PTEs, namely Globe and Smart, experienced issues on their servers, as a big volume of subscribers try to access their registration portals.
Both companies said users can just keep on trying as they improve their systems.
Note that Globe has over 87 million subscribers, while Smart has about 70 million subscribers.
Tamano said the smooth registration process for DITO was thanks to their different approach since registration was done through the app instead of a website like the other telcos.
It was also due to DITO's "over preparation" that their system was only able to encounter and solve a few issues, even a hacking attempt during the initial rollout of the registration.
On the DITO side, well in advance of SIM registration, we invested over a billion pesos on our security system to ensure that the data of our subscribers are protected and that’s why, props to our security team, we are doing a good job, Tamano said.
Tamano said they are already preparing a report about the incident to be submitted to the National Telecommunications Commission.
DITO also had a small issue with its server capacity, Tamano said. However, this was immediately addressed after its capacity was adjusted to up to 40,000 from 15,000 users, he noted.
If 400,000 to 500,000 subscribers will be able to register every day, the process can be completed before the end of the 180-day period set by the law, Tamano said.
DITO subscribers, have you registered yet?
