MediaTek to showcase satellite tech this MWC

Thru its official press site, MediaTek made it known that the company will showcase its new satellite connectivity technology during the Mobile World Congress 2023 in Barcelona.

The company says it is working to bring reliable connectivity everywhere with two-way satellite communications implemented thru smartphones and other devices. The company will be demonstrating the 3GPP Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) technology for two-way satellite communications. This may usher in a new era of connectivity that will open up new possibilities.

MediaTek's MT6825 standalone smartphone chipsets are based on the 3GPP NTN technology and can be integrated into any smartphone. The company is targeting both IoT-NTN and NR-NTN. IoT-NTN is designed for low-data rate connections while NR-NTN supports video calls.

The Taiwanese semiconductor company will be partnering with Bullitt to release the world's first commercial devices with the aforementioned 3GPP NTN technology. The Bullitt Group is a British-based smartphone and consumer electronics company. The MT6825 chipset will connect to the Bullitt Satellite Connect platform and can be integrated with a wide range of smartphone brands. Unfortunately, details of the new chipset are scarce for now

More details of the new satellite technology will be revealed during the MWC 2023.
