Tulfo wants probe, penalties vs. rude govt workers
In a statement, Tulfo said he has filed a resolution to investigate arrogant and snobbish government employees, who he noted is "creating an atmosphere of fear and mistrust in public institutions, agencies, and offices."
Through Senate Resolution No. 554, the Anti-Taray Bill will also be crafted to hopefully set penalties on public personnel who will be found guilty of misconduct, harassment, and even human rights violations.
Tulfo cited a 2020 survey by the Development Academy of the Philippines that assessed citizens’ and businesses' view on frontline government services. It showed a decline in satisfaction from 86.93 in 2018 to 70.14 in 2020.
Tulfo said it has been a common thing to hear complaints, especially from the poor, about the improper treatment they receive from government staff.
As public workers, they should be respectful, patient, and understanding, he said. Otherwise, they do not deserve to be in their position, he added.
Furthermore, "government workers should treat the Filipino public as their boss since their compensation is being paid for by the citizens," Tulfo noted.
Do you think this will be effective?
