Following the leaked key details of the PC ARM chip. Qualcomm officially unveils the Snapdragon X Elite.
Apart from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for mobile devices, Qualcomm also wants to compete in Windows on ARM laptops.
To recap, it uses a 4nm lithography process with 12 high-performance Oryon cores with a boost clock of 2.8GHz while its single and dual cores can boost up to 4.3GHz. Qualcomm says that this new CPU can take on the Intel 13th-generation CPUs on multi-threaded performance while being more efficient in power draw by 68 percent.
Meanwhile, the chipmaker also said that it has a 50 percent fast peak on multi-threaded performance against Apple's M2 chip.
In the graphics department, the X Elite chip features an integrated Adreno GPU with 4.6 TLOPS and support for DirectX 12 API.
Moreover, Qualcomm mentioned that it can support up to three external UHD screens at 60Hz. The Adreno video processing uni (VPU), which supports 4K60 10-bit encodes and decodes for H.264, HEVC (H.265), and AV1 files are useful video editors.
Additionally, Qualcomm included a Hexagon NPU that specializes in Generative AI workloads and has 45 Tera operations per second (TOPs). More than 13 billion parameters can be handled by the Snapdragon X Elite, which can also produce 30 tokens each second.
Finally, it also supports lossless audio playback using the Qualcomm Aqstic DAC and it also features the Qualcomm Spectra image signal processor (ISP) with support for up to 36MP dual cameras and 4K HDR video.
