Sony announced the PS5 Pro

The new console looks like PS5 Slim but with a slightly bigger body. It still has shark fins on the side to add aesthetics.

Sony noted this comes with a better GPU with 67 percent more Compute Units over the previous model while also having 28 percent faster memory. It claimed the upgrade brings 45 percent better rendering for gameplay thus providing users with a smoother fps experience.

It also comes with a stronger ray tracing capability to give higher reflection and refraction of light. Sony states that this enhancement enables rays to be cast at speeds up to double, and occasionally triple, compared to the PS5 console.

Another highlight is the AI-Driven Upscaling. Sony says this Pro version now has PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution which uses machine learning to bring super sharp images on supported games.

Additional enhancements feature the PS5 Pro Game Boost, which is applicable to over 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 games on the PS5 Pro. This feature aims to stabilize or enhance the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games. There is also an Enhanced Image Quality option for PS4 games to upgrade the resolution of selected titles. Furthermore, the PS5 Pro will debut with the latest WiFi 7 technology in regions that support this standard, along with support for VRR and 8K gaming.

Below are the several games that will receive an update to take advantage of PS5 Pro's latest features:

Alan Wake 2
Assassin’s Creed: Shadows
Demon’s Souls

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Gran Turismo 7

  1. I don't see much sense in the PS5 Pro, as a $700 PC could offer very similar performance and almost the same catalog, since Sony doesn't have any exclusive games now other than AstroBot.
