A proper upgrade from Nintendo

In a livestream at the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct event, the company showed what fans may expect from the upcoming handheld.

Among the big changes was the larger screen, 7.9 inches with 1080p resolution, marking a leap from the HD screen of the predecessor.

What frowns us here is that it still uses an LCD panel, but the good news is you can play 4K resolution and reach up to 120 fps on docked mode.

Another change is the Joy-Con 2, which now uses magnets to attach to the handheld, allowing for quick release or snap back when needed.

Additionally, Nintendo included a noise cancelling microphone and added a mouse control ability on the detachable gamepad. This creates a new gaming experience for two players when using the new Joy-Con.

Apparently, Nintendo only mentioned a custom chip developed by NVIDIA. Although it was previously rumored, the company uses a modified Nvidia Tegra T239 chip with a custom GPU based on RTX 30-series Ampere architecture. It reportedly features 1,536 CUDA cores with a 128-bit memory interface coupled with LPDDR5 RAM and reaching a memory bandwidth of 102 gigabyte per second.

There's also a cooling fan included to ensure the performance is sustained when gaming.

Nintendo mentioned, it uses 256GB base storage, a much-needed revamp from the 32GB or 64GB of the 1st Nintendo switch.

Nintendo also talked about the new Switch 2 Pro gamepad which they added a GameChat button, GL/GR buttons at the back and even a 3.5mm headphone jack.

US price with direct to PHP conversion (no taxes and duties yet):

Nintendo Switch 2 - USD 449.99 (around PHP 25.7K)
Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle - USD 499.99 (around PHP 28.5K)

Finally, it will be available starting June 5. However, it is not mentioned if it will come to the Philippines on the said date. For more information, you may check Nintendo's website.
