OriginOS 6 to debut globally, will replace Funtouch OS

vivo is preparing to introduce its signature Origin OS to global markets, beginning with the upcoming Origin OS 6.

This version, built on Android 16, will mark the international debut of the operating system. The sudden shift is signaled by the rebranding of the official @FuntouchOS_IN X (formerly Twitter) social media account to OriginOS.

The change will see the company's visually distinctive interface replace Funtouch OS on devices sold outside of China, moving global users to the platform previously exclusive to vivo's home market.

Launch timeline and expected features

vivo has officially announced that OriginOS 6 will be unveiled on October 10, 2025, at the company's Developer Conference in China. 

The upcoming OS is expected to introduce a "Comfort Engineering" design concept, which aims to deliver a more natural and intuitive user interaction.

Previewed features include a significantly redesigned lock screen with new customization capabilities. 

Among the highlighted elements is a digital clock that uses real-time rendering to simulate natural light effects, such as refraction and shadows, which adjust intelligently based on on-screen content to create a sense of depth.

A new transparent color palette is also expected, designed to generate subtle drop shadows. This technique aims to blend the lock screen wallpaper more seamlessly with the user interface elements.

For several years, vivo has operated a dual-OS strategy. Global devices have shipped with Funtouch OS, which offers an experience closer to stock Android. 

In contrast, OriginOS, available only in China, is recognized for its unique aesthetic, detailed animations, and extensive customization options like behavioral wallpapers.

Finally, the upcoming vivo X300 series and the iQOO 15 are anticipated to be the first devices to ship with OriginOS 6 pre-installed in China upon their expected launch in October. 

These models are also likely to be among the first to bring the new global software to international markets later in the year.
