Built like a tank sports watch

HUAWEI unveiled the Watch GT Runner 2 at its "Now is Your Run" product launch event as the sequel to the 2021 Watch GT Runner. The device was developed in collaboration with marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge and the DSM-Firmenich Running Team.

The wearable features a 43.5mm titanium casing with a metal bezel, measuring 10.7mm thick and weighing 43.5 grams. It is available in Dawn Orange, Dusk Blue, and Midnight Black color options and carries a water resistance rating of up to 40 meters.

The device is equipped with a 1.32-inch AMOLED touchscreen protected by second-generation Kunlun Glass, with a peak brightness of 3,000 nits.

For health and performance tracking, the watch integrates HUAWEI's TruSense sensor suite, which monitors heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, ECG, respiratory rate, sleep patterns, and stress levels.

It introduces an Intelligent Marathon Mode designed to provide guidance and track performance metrics, including running power measurement, dynamic pace guidance, and refuel reminders. The device is also the first HUAWEI watch to feature a real-time lactate threshold (anaerobic threshold) detection algorithm, a metric used to monitor fatigue buildup.

Additionally, it incorporates a new 3D floating antenna with an optimized gasket design, which HUAWEI states offers 3.5 times better antenna performance than its predecessor and improved GPS accuracy in environments such as tunnels or shaded areas.

The antenna is paired with an inertial positioning algorithm that uses the accelerometer and gyroscope for route tracking. The watch supports dual-band satellite positioning with independent navigation capabilities, allowing users to track workouts and receive guidance without a paired smartphone.

It is powered by a 540mAh silicon-carbon battery, rated for up to 14 days of typical use and 32 hours of continuous GPS tracking.

The Watch GT Runner 2 is compatible with iOS and Android devices. Additional features include an onboard speaker for hands-free calls and NFC for mobile payments, with HUAWEI confirming that Curve Pay will be available on the device in the UK starting from launch.
