Locally assembled EVs soon?

The goal? Making EVs more accessible for Filipinos

Filipino automotive manufacturing company known for making passenger jeepneys, Francisco Motors, dropped a teaser of its own version of an electric vehicle called FMC ELEKTRON.

Our hardworking teams in Francisco Motors California and in Francisco Motors China had a major breakthrough with the development of our FMC ELEKTRON compact SUV together with our technology partners, of which we did not settle for less, Francisco Motors' Elmer Francisco said in a Facebook post on Labor Day.

He did not share features of the car, but based on the accompanying photo of Francisco's post, it seems the EV will have large digital displays (modern-looking touch screen, large infotainment system).

Francisco said they are currently weighing the possibility of bringing the new EV to the Philippines, given existing policies, and if pre-orders will exceed 1,000 units.

If yes, we will consider local assembly by 2028 when we will finally have a pro-Filipino manufacturer new administration, he said.
