LG deepens robotics push with NVIDIA

LG Electronics is building a new Data Factory at its Yangjae R&D Campus in Seoul, where robots will repeatedly practice tasks such as cleaning, stacking, and assembling parts to generate training data, in collaboration with NVIDIA.

The facility spans four floors, one basement and three above ground, with a total floor area of 10,000 square meters. It is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of 2026 and is expected to house several hundred robots. LG said it has already deployed its LG CLOiD home robots at scale to generate, collect, and learn from data.

Inside the facility, LG CLOiD units practice cleaning tasks in a replicated home environment and move, stack, and assemble parts in a space modeled on LG's washing machine plant in Tennessee. Robots are also deployed in LG CNS's logistics automation solutions, while LG Innotek uses a separate space to train robotic hands.

LG said the data collected will be linked with NVIDIA's robotics stack, where it can be augmented and synthesized for robot learning, a cycle the company calls a "data flywheel." LG is combining this with decades of data from its manufacturing and logistics operations. The Data Factory will also expand and synthesize robot-learning data gathered from LG sites and home appliances worldwide.

The facility incorporates NVIDIA's physical AI technologies, including NVIDIA Omniverse libraries, NVIDIA Cosmos open world models, and the open NVIDIA Isaac robotics development platform. LG expects data collected at the Data Factory, combined with data synthetically generated using NVIDIA Cosmos, to total 100,000 hours by the end of 2026, equivalent to roughly 12 years of data. LG plans to use this data to advance its Robot Foundation Model, which underpins its humanoid robots' performance.

The Data Factory follows a memorandum of understanding that LG Group and NVIDIA signed for strategic collaboration at NVIDIA's Santa Clara headquarters on August 13.
