More areas in Visayas now powered with Smart LTE!

Smart Communications has boosted its network with more areas in Visayas now fired up with LTE (long term evolution) and LTE-Advanced technologies.

Following its upgrades in Metro Cebu, PLDT's wireless unit has expanded the reach of its LTE and LTE-A networks in the rest of the province and to key locations in Visayas. 

In Cebu, Smart is now able to offer LTE to Cebu City, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Minglanilla and Talisay, while it has also been rolled out in Badian, Balamban, Barili, Catmon, Madridejos, Sibonga, and Tabuelan.

Tourism areas in the province have been also reached, including Oslob, Moalboal, Daanbantayan, Medellin, Toledo City, Bogo City and Carmen. 

Major cities in Visayas have been also powered by the network upgrades, such as Kalibo in Aklan, Tagbilaran City in Bohol, Roxas City in Capiz, Tacloban and Ormoc in Leyte, Jordan in Guimaras, Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental, Catbalogan City in Samar and Maasin City in Southern Leyte, among others.

Now, Visayas as well as local and foreign tourists can enjoy faster internet and share their photos and videos using Smart LTE.

Our ramped-up roll-out in Cebu and the rest of the Visayas is part of Smart’s commitment to deliver world-class internet service to more Filipinos, wherever they may be in the country, said Mario G. Tamayo, PLDT and Smart Senior Vice President for Network Planning and Engineering.

PLDT is focusing on equipping its networks with advanced technologies to provide better services to its customers. With this in mind, the telco giant allotted P58 billion capital expenditures to support this plan. 

It is targeting to double its LTE base stations to 17,700 across the country and increase its LTE-equipped cell sites to over 6,800 by early next year. 

For its fiber-powered broadband, PLDT has expanded its reach to 4.4 million homes passed as of first quarter of 2018.
