IDC: Huawei beats Apple twice in a row; to unseat Samsung soon?

Huawei have unseated Apple in the previous quarter report of the International Data Corporation (IDC) and secures the same second spot on the latest IDC market share report.

In case you missed it, the Chinese smartphone brand had it's record high market share of 27 percent in the last quarter in 2Q18 in China. The overall global year-on-year (YoY) growth of Huawei is 40.9 percent. They shipped a total of 54.2 million units worldwide. 

For this quarter, Huawei have shipped 52 million devices, a huge leap from their 39.1 million units sold same quarter last year. Their significant 32.1 percent YoY growth is the biggest recorded among the top three smartphones. Huawei achieved this despite troubles in entering the U.S. market.

The other two that posted year-on-year growth were Xiaomi which falls on the fourth spot, which showed an increase of 21.2 percent, and the now third placer Apple with 0.5 percent.

Samsung still holds its unwavering position on the first spot, BUT has seen a 22.1 percent market share decrease in the third quarter of 2017 to 20.3 percent in the same period this year.

OPPO places on the fifth spot, experiencing a minimal decline in market share. But IDC noted that this smartphone brand is continuously getting a worldwide attention with the launch of OPPO Find X and R17 Series.
