To end the year with a bang, OnePlus partnered with McLaren to launch a special edition smartphone. It is the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition.

Affordable for a limited edition high-end smartphone!

It's a limited edition smartphone with a specialized McLaren inspired design. The McLaren Edition still goes with most of the top-of-the-line specs found on the OnePlus 6T, but better.

It now comes with the biggest RAM on a OnePlus device yet at 10GB and the evolution of the famed Dash Charge dubbed as the Warp Charge tech.

The best part? The price! Unlike other very expensive limited edition smartphones in partnership with an automotive brand, the OnePlus 6T is considered as very affordable for the specs and features.

It has an SRP of just PHP 39,990! Tempting right? Let's all have a look!

Unboxing/Accessories

Attractive packaging

The packaging of this is feels and looks luxurious right off the bat! The packaging comes with an attractive papaya orange color with a big "salute to speed" text and the logos of OnePlus and McLaren in front.

Inside, it is a pretty loaded package. First you will see the 30W Warp Charge USB wall charger, the new USB-A to USB-C cable with braided coating, USB-C to 3.5mm dongle, carbon fiber case, and paper docs.

What's missing is a free earphones with mic.

Build Quality/Design

Stunning glass design with papaya orange accent

The McLaren Edition has most of the materials found on the regular OnePlus 6T. It still features a 3D glass back and Gorilla Glass 6 protected 2.5D curved screen in front.

But it now has a carbon fiber design under the 3D glass back inspired from a Formula 1 racing car. It also has a papaya orange speed trail accent that flows dynamically along the bottom edge. It also features the McLaren logo below at the back.

Design-wise, it is arguably the most elegant looking smartphone in the PHP 40K range!

The rest is the same with the regular OnePlus 6T. The design is mostly similar. It still goes with the waterdrop-like notch and 86 percent of screen-to-body ratio.

Initial findings

1. The McLaren branding made it look and feel like a luxury smartphone. Again, it is arguably the most stylish smartphone for its price.

2. I also like that it has 10GB RAM to handle more tasks with ease than other similarly priced flagships. Some may think that 10GB is gimmick, but I will still prefer having bigger RAM than a smaller RAM. It also goes with a massive 256GB UFS 2.1 storage out of the box.

3. The 30W Warp Charge is real. It is noticeably faster than the 5V/4A OnePlus Fast Charge/Dash Charge power brick. The 50 percent of charge in 20 minutes claim of OnePlus is true. After that it will be a bit slower. But, charging time is just under an hour from 0 to 100 percent.

4. Nearly everything is the same from the regular OnePlus 6T, but better overall.

As of the moment

For me, the McLaren Edition of the 6T is the most exciting and powerful OnePlus smartphone yet.

The improved design with McLaren branding screams premium, 10GB RAM is always nice, and the new Warp Charge 30W charging solution is amazing.

It could be the smartphone to beat in the under PHP 40K range! It is that good so far!

Stay tuned for our full review.
