A Surface-like gaming beast

Basically, it will remind you of a Microsoft Surface. It comes with a pop-up kickstand and detachable keyboard. BUT, it is a gaming laptop! Most likely, this new gaming device has versatility as a priority in mind.

The display is still considered as big though. It comes with a 17.3-inch FHD 1080p screen with 144Hz refresh rate, 3ms response time, and NVIDIA G-Sync. It is powered by the top-of-the-line Intel Core i9-8950HK processor with the new NVIDIA RTX 2080 GPU.

ASUS also overclocked both the CPU and GPU, but it has better cooling so it is just fine. It also has a 3 NVMe SSDs RAID 0 array and up to 64GB DDR RAM.

It also has a built-in webcam with Windows Hello facial recognition, USB-C Thunderbolt 3 port, regular USB-C port, 4x USB-A ports, HDMI, SD card, Ethernet port, and the  dual 280W charging ports.

ASUS also stated that its kickstand pops out automatically from the bottom of the laptop when it touches the surface to make it easy to setup even on just one hand.

The magnetic keyboard can also be detached as it has wireless connectivity. You can even fold it in half for less space. The keyboard also goes with USB-C for wired connection.

The laptop is a bit heavy at around 10.36 pounds.

Price and availability

The Mothership will be available in Q1 2019. Maybe the price and full details will be revealed at the Computex 2019 in Taiwan.
