Canalys: Huawei leads in China, Vivo up to number 2, OPPO A5 is the bestseller

Canalys recently released its latest smartphone vendor performance index in China. The data showed that the Chinese smartphone market landscape and its leaders.

According the data by Canalys, the Chinese smartphone market dipped by 15 percent in Q3 2018 versus Q3 2017. There's a total of 101 million units shipped in 2018 versus 119 million of 2017.

The USD 400 to USD 600 price range is the hot spot for flagships. The average selling price in China is around USD 300.

Huawei is still the market leader by capturing 25 percent of the market share. The Honor sub-brand of the company is still their top-selling line. The Nova and Enjoy series are also getting quite popular. The company also sold a lot of P and Mate series flagship smartphones.

However, the Mate 20 Pro suffered from production issues due to the defective display by LG. They offered free replacements for affected devices to prevent brand reputation damage.

The surprise is Vivo! Vivo bested OPPO for the number 2 spot with 23 percent of the market share. The reason behind Vivo's success is their focus on volume. The entry-level Y series of the company is accounted for 64 percent of their shipment in Q3 2018. 75 percent of its global shipments is in China.

Vivo has 5 smartphone models in China's top 10 smartphones last Q3 2018. Vivo needs to work on their premium models to remain profitable though.

OPPO A5 is the bestseller

OPPO is down to to number 3 with 21 percent of the Chinese market share. But, they have the bestselling smartphone model in China, the OPPO A5. It is followed by the OPPO R15 at the number 2 spot. In total, they have four smartphones in the top 10.

Xiaomi is at number 4 with 13 percent of the market share. The Redmi 6A made it to the top 10 smartphones last Q3 in China.

Apple is still at number 5. But they have the biggest value share in this list.

Their highly priced smartphones made them the number 1 in terms of revenue. The discontinued iPhone X is a hot-seller. But, Apple may suffer in early 2019 as the iPhone XS series are not doing well.

The next 5 in the top are Meizu, Samsung, Hisense, nubia, and Nokia.
