Did the iPhone Duo's broken screen issue accidentally help Samsung sell more Galaxy Z Fold8s?

Industry observers believe that some consumers who were weighing both devices ultimately chose the Fold8 instead. Analysts also suggest that concerns surrounding the iPhone Duo's quality may have given Samsung's foldable lineup an unexpected boost.

For those unfamiliar, Apple's first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, has recently faced a series of quality-related issues and controversies.

To sustain the momentum, Samsung has reportedly extended its Galaxy AI Subscription Club through November, offering benefits such as up to 50% guaranteed residual value, Samsung Care+, and accessory discounts for eligible Fold8 buyers.

The company is also providing trade-in bonuses of up to KRW 100,000 and running additional year-end promotions and student-focused offers.

Meanwhile, Apple CEO John Ternus said that while the company's production ramp is progressing well, the Duo "is constrained as of today," and Apple can't predict when supply and demand will be in balance.

This means that due to strong demand, prospective buyers may have to wait for restocks if the Duo runs out of stock in their region.

In the Philippines, the Galaxy Z Fold8 starts at PHP 109,990. The iPhone Duo starts at PHP 159,990.
