Redmi will soon be a standalone brand of Xiaomi, official launch on January 10

Xiaomi has made a very important announcement today in China, it's not about a new smartphone but what's about to unveil regarding their Redmi series.

The Chinese smartphone brand has made the announcement through their Weibo page. Xiaomi has officially announced that its Redmi will no longer be a 'series', but is now an official brand. The first smartphone under the Redmi brand will be unveiled on January 10, at 2pm, local Beijing, China time.

The announcement made was very simple. Xiaomi did not go through with so much details regarding the upcoming brand launch. But speculations have been circulating around that the first Redmi smartphone could be the much talked about Xiaomi 48MP camera smartphone as seen in the shadows of the poster released.

Rumors surfacing online also say that the first Redmi smartphone brand could sport a 48MP sensor, and the Snapdragon 675, while others speculate it could be the Redmi 7 Pro  which was earlier spotted with a waterdrop notch screen.

Redmi Series, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun says the separation became imperative, given that the Mi series and the Redmi series cater for two different market segments, the value-for-money budget smartphones, and the high-end segments.

The Redmi series is comparable with the Huawei's Honor series which will also be sold primarily on e-commerce platforms. Meanwhile, the Mi series will still non-e-commerce focused.
