New-gen camera sensors for ultra-sleek mid-range smartphones

Samsung ISOCELL Slim 3T2 is Samsung's smallest high-resolution image sensor at just 1/3.4 inches. It has 0.8μm pixel size which can deliver 20MP resolution photos on full-screen mid-range smartphones.

Samsung stated that aside from providing "excellent" clarity and detail, the 20MP ISOCELL Slim 3T2 sensor can also offer high color fidelity by adopting their own ISOCELL Plus technology.

ISOCELL Plus enables sensors to capture and absorb more light information for accurate color reproduction even with sub-micrometer-sized pixels. It also has Samsung's Tetracell technology that merges four pixels to work as one for brighter and sharper images in low light scenes as the color filter array's light sensitivity increases to that of a 1.6μm-pixel image sensor at 5MP resolution.

For telephoto, ISOCELL Slim 3T2 will use RGB color filter array instead of Tetracell technology

The small size of the image sensor also reduces the height of the tele-camera module by around seven percent versus their own 1/3-inch 20MP image sensor.

Therefore, the new sensor can fit hole-in display or notch design phones and allow more elegant smartphone designs.

ISOCELL Slim 3T2 is expected to be in mass production this first quarter of 2019.

We can expect to see it in several phones with punch-hole or tiny notch designs this year.
