AMD's new chips may put Intel in danger!

Last night at Computex 2019, AMD's CEO Dr. Lisa Su unveiled the company's new line of 7nm processors. Headlining the series is a new product tier with the new Ryzen 9 3900X with 12-cores, 24 Threads with base frequencies of 3.8 that can boost up to 4.6GHz with 64MB of L3 Cache and 6MB L2 Cache. It also supports PCIe 4.0 with a TDP of 105W and is priced at only 499 USD! This is less than half the price of the competing Intel 9920X at USD 1,189.

Ryzen 9 3900X: 12 Cores, 24 Threads, 3.8GHz Base, 4.6 Max Boost, 6MB L2 Cache, 64MB L3 Cache, PCIe 4.0, 105W TDP

Ryzen 7 3800X: 8 Cores, 16 Threads, 3.9GHz Base, 4.5 Max Boost, 4MB L2 Cache, 32MB L3 Cache, PCIe 4.0, 105W TDP.

Ryzen 7 3700X: 8 Cores, 16 Threads, 3.6GHz Base, 4.4 Max Boost, 4MB L2 Cache, 32MB L3 Cache, PCIe 4.0, 65W TDP.

Ryzen 5 3600X: 6 Cores, 12 Threads, 3.8GHz Base, 4.4 Max Boost, 3MB L2 Cache, 32MB L3 Cache, PCIe 4.0, 95W TDP.

Ryzen 5 3600: 6 Cores, 12 Threads, 3.6 GHz Base, 4.2 Max Boost, 3MB L2, Cache, 32MB L3 Cache, PCIe 4.0, 65 W TDP.

All of these processors will be available on July 7th or 7/7 that coincides with TSMC's 7nm process.

One of the largest surprise from the specifications of the new processors is that all of them support PCIe 4.0 which is rated to perform double the speed from the previous generation. This also makes the new Ryzen 3000 series are the first platform to support the new PCIe generation. In addition to this, the PCIe lanes for all processors are also the same across the line with 16 lanes for GPU, 4 lanes for storage, 4 lanes for the chipset.

When comparing with the competition, the Ryzen 3000 chips are able to perform comparable or to be even better to their Intel counter parts with lower prices and lower TDPs with Cinebench R20. One example is with the Ryzen 3900X beating the Intel 9920X by 14 percent while having a lower 105TDP compared to the Intel's 165W TDP.

When comparing with previous generation of Ryzen processors, the new 3900X performs 32 percent better in single core performance over the previous Ryzen 7 1800X. In multi-core processes, the new processors are getting 100 percent better performance because of the 50 percent more cores along with the higher clock speeds.

Surprise! New motherboards as well!

To take advantage of the new PCIe 4.0 CPUs, a new X570 series of mothers will be released by manufacturers alongside the new 7nm chips from AMD. Sixteen lanes will be for the GPU, four for storage, and four for the chipset. This is great news because PCIe 4.0 SSDs have also been reported to be arriving soon.
