Another blow for Apple

The headline of the story is Apple. Sales of the iPhone fell at a record pace and OPPO overtook its position as the number 3 smartphone brand in the world.

Now at number 4, Apple shipped 35.3 million units of iPhones versus the 36.2 million of OPPO.

Sales of iPhones now account for less than half of Apple's overall revenue. Analysts are saying that this is because users are holding on to their new iPhones for longer to avoid buying new and more expensive models.

In total, Apple had a -15 percent YoY growth.

Meanwhile, this is the highest rank for OPPO yet at 13 percent YoY growth.

Samsung retained its top position with 75.1 million units shipped or 23 percent of the market share.

Huawei weathered the previous US trade ban storm and still shipped 58.7 million units or 18 percent of the global market share. The Chinese tech giant even had an 8 percent YoY growth to maintain its number 2 spot in the rankings.

The rest of the top 5 to 10 includes Xiaomi, Vivo, LG, Motorola, Tecno, and TCL-Alcatel, respectively.
