There are no earphones with a mic inside the box.

Build Quality/Design

Glasstic back
Glasstic back

Realme 5 looks very similar to the previous realme 3 but with more eye-catching elements that improve on the previous generation.

A new glasstic back cover replaces the old polycarbonate back. It is covered with polygon-shaped designs that shine differently depending on how the light hits it catches the eyes right away.

Eye-catching reflective back

On the top right of the back are the quad-rear cameras, and LED flash. At the top-middle area is the fingerprint scanner.
The front
The front

In front is the large 6.5-inch display that is protected by Gorilla Glass 3+. This results in a 89 percent screen-to-body ratio. In between the glass front and glasstic back is a solid polycarbonate frame with matte-like texture. This textured frame allows for added grip to help prevent slippage.

On top, is a smooth surface with the camera hump being visible on the top left side. At the bottom are the speaker grill, microphone port, micro-USB port, and the 3.5mm headphone jack.

On the left, you'll find the triple slot tray (dual SIM + microSD). Beside it are the volume up and volume down buttons. On right is the power key.

The back is prone to fingerprint smudges so we advise inserting the phone into the included silicone case to protect the phone. The case also makes it a lot easier to hold the phone in one hand because the glasstic back can be slippery.

Even though it has a large 6.5-inch display, the slim side bezels allow it to be in a smaller form factor that makes it easier to hold.

Initial findings

1. For a phone with a 720p HD+ IPS panel, it has one of the brighter and vibrant screens out there. Text and images pop but because the screen is large, some people may find the lower pixel count a concern.

2. Under the hood, Snapdragon 665 with Adreno 610. It is a chip based on the 11nm manufacturing process with improved power efficiency. Basically, it is as fast as other phones priced in the PHP 15,990 range.

It even has large up to 4GB RAM and up to 128GB internal storage that is expandable up to 256GB. The 5,000mAh battery has a 10W 5V/2A charger. This means that with the 720p display, the battery life of this phone can potentially last more than a day. But with the 10W charger, the charging time could take up to 3-4 hours.
ColorOS 6
ColorOS 6

3. The phone runs on ColorOS 6 But with different visual elements compared to the OPPO counterpart. It is neater and easier to navigate. The camera app is somewhat different as well. We'll have to dive deeper into the review to see what it can do. Over the past few months, we grew to like ColorOS 6 and from our experience, it is one of the better Android skins out there.

4. Realme 5 has a quad-rear camera set-up which could potentially make it one of the best and more versatile shooter in the affordable smartphone segment. The rear camera set-up is composed of a 12MP f/1.8 with PDAF, 8MP f/2.25 119-degree ultra wide-angle camera, 2MP f/2.4 4cm macro camera, and 2MP f/2.4 depth camera

In front is a 13MP front-facing camera that is on the notch under the earpiece.

Note: Watch out for our camera samples!

5. The device goes with WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4GHz/5GHz), 700MHz 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and dual SIM (nano) connectivity options. It has a fingerprint scanner at the back and the face unlock is one of the fastest around.

As of the moment

Like the realme 5 Pro, we are pleased and intrigued by the new realme 5.

We like the improved design and the decision to offer quad-rear cameras to the affordable smartphone segment. The specs are also capable but we hope that the next generation would include USB Type-C.
