Xiaomi announces Mi MIX Alpha 5G with Surround Display and 108MP main camera

A game-changer? Xiaomi just announced a concept phone called the Mi MIX Alpha with an interesting Surround Display and a 108MP main camera.

Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha has a stunning design and 108MP main camera!

It has flagship specs, a new surround display, and a 108MP camera

The highlight of the device is its futuristic look since it has an interesting display dubbed as the "Surround Display".

It is a screen that wraps around the device from front to back. It is touted as the 360-degree surround display boasting a 180.6 percent screen-to-body ratio.

The side of the display shows serves as a status bar showing the battery information, different connections, as well as a few pressure-sensitive buttons. It also pulses for notifications as well. The back part of the screen serves many purposes. It can house commonly used apps such as weather, step counter, a recorder, and a calculator.

Xiaomi also revealed a few pieces of information about the build of the device. It will have a titanium alloy frame to make it very durable while maintaining lightness. The back is made out of precision ceramic backplate with cameras protected by sapphire glass.

Inside, it has a 7nm 64-bit 2.96GHz Snapdragon 855 Plus octa-core processor, Adreno 640 GPU, 12GB RAM, 512GB UFS 3.0 storage, and a 4,050mAh battery with 40W fast charging.

It has a triple camera setup

For the cameras, it has the first 108MP camera sensor on a smartphone. It can shoot images with up to 12,032 x 9,024. During the launch, they showcased how much detailed is retained even if you zoomed in the captured photos 8 times.

The complete specs for the triple camera setup are 108MP f/1.69 ISOCELL PLUS with anti-vibration and Smart ISO + 20MP f/2.2 117-degree wide-angle lens + 12MP f/2.0 portrait sensor with Dual PD and LED flash.

There is no selfie camera upfront since you can use the screen at the back to take selfies using the rear cameras as well. So, yes, you can take 108MP selfies for your IG feed.

For connectivity, it also has 5G included.

Price and availability

The official price is CNY 19,999

The Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha will go into a limited release this year and will go on sale in December. It is priced at CNY 19,999 or around PHP 146K.

There's no word if it is coming to the Philippines just yet, but we will update you guys as soon as we get more information.
