Samsung to use a periscope-style zoom module |
5X optical zoom on Samsung Galaxy S11?
Embedded below is the video that Samsung Electro-Mechanics released that details the advantages of a 5X optical zoom periscope camera.
This marks the first time Samsung uses this kind of camera module on its Galaxy S series smartphones. The modules will be supplied by Samsung Electro-Mechanics which already began mass production of 5x optical zoom modules in May 2019. The modules were first seen in OPPO Reno and Huawei P30.
Optical zooming is commonly preferred since image quality remains intact even when the photos are enlarged. However, when opting to use such solutions the phone usually becomes thicker. That is why most manufacturers choose 2x or 3x zoom cameras as seen in Galaxy S10 and the recently launched iPhone 11.
The Galaxy S11's solution will come in a periscope style design to prevent the module from adding thickness to the device. In addition to the zoom modules, Galaxy S11 is expected to feature a rear quad camera setup with a 108 MP wide-angle camera and a 3D ToF module.
The Samsung Galaxy S11 series is expected to launch in the first half of 2020. Will this new camera system be implemented on the S11?
