More Google stations for the public’s online access
PLDT wireless subsidiary Smart Communications stated that this is to support the efforts of the government to upgrade the delivery of their services. Google and Smart announced that there are more than 600 Google Station sites were already built across the country, and the ones in LTO will join this in this increase.
As of now, LTO offices in Metro Manila, Davao and Laguna already have a Google station. The recent agreement will enable the expansion of this Smart-powered Wi-Fi service across other LTO district and regional offices soon.
LTO Assistant Secretary Edgar C. Galvante mentioned how essential the internet is to the Filipino lifestyle in different ways, especially in having access to online government services. With these concerns, he added that reliable connectivity is important to deliver timely and efficient government services.
PLDT Senior Vice President and Head of Enterprise Juan Victor I. Hernandez said that,
With quality connectivity at their fingertips, motorists who visit the offices to obtain or renew their driver’s licenses, motor vehicle registrations, and other permits can easily access these online services.
Google Station is also accessible in other government offices such as city and provincial halls, as well as in offices of the National Bureau of Investigation across the country. Apart from that, this free Wifi service is existing in other heavy foot-traffic areas such as airports and other transportation hubs like bus stations and seaports, hospitals, tertiary schools, and malls.
The rollout of Google Station across the Philippines is in line with Smart’s ongoing network expansion and modernization program across the Philippines.
