These 144MP image sensors face the challenge of power consumption since it needs a relatively high voltage that ranges from 2V and up. This is doable but most, if not all, chipset designers aim for the lowest possible voltage since this directly affects a device's power consumption and thermals.

Samsung researchers stated that this 14nm FinFET technology is designed to allow 42 percent reduction in power consumption in a 144MP sensor while still being able to capture images at 10fps. For a 12MP output at 30 to 120fps, the power savings can go up to 37 percent.

The 14nm FinFET technology announcement is meant to focus on the process instead of the 144MP sensor size. It focuses on the technology that would help drive the new image sensors in the most efficient way possible.
