Huawei continues its streak of releasing competitive tablets in most pricing segments in the Philippines. Several months ago, Huawei released the MatePad and MatePad Pro.

In late September, Huawei announced the MatePad T 10 entry-level tablet for only PHP 6,990. It features a Kirin 710A, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage, 9.7-inch display, 1280 x 800 resolution, and 5,100mAh battery.

Since it is an entry-level offering, it does not support Huawei's M-Pencil.

Let's take a closer look at the unboxing and hardware.

The MatePad comes in a classic Huawei white box. Inside the retail box are the tablet, SIM ejector tool, USB Type-C cable, charging plug, and documentation.

We received the media review unit version without the documentation.

Build Quality/Design

Huawei MatePad T 10 is made of a combination of metal, glass, and high-quality polycarbonate.

Sturdy-looking build despite the budget price tag

In front is a glass panel on top of the display while the back is made of a larger metal backplate and a smaller polycarbonate backplate to allow antenna reception. Sandwiched in the middle of the front and back panels is an inner polycarbonate frame.

As previously mentioned, the front features the 9.7-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1200 x 800 at 156 ppi.

The bezels surrounding the display is around half an inch and houses the front-facing camera and LED notification light.

There is no mention if it is Gorilla Glass protection. There is no pre-installed protective film as well.
Top and bottom sides

On top of the MatePad T 10 are the volume rocker, power button, and two microphone ports while at the bottom is a smooth surface.

And at the back is a 5MP f/2.2 main camera in between the metal back panel and the polycarbonate back panel.

The tablet has an internal 5100mAh battery that charges with a USB Type-C port and it measures 240.2 x 159 x 7.85 mm and weighs only 450 grams. It comes in the Deepsea Blue color.

Out of the box, the curved metal backplate feels premium but is a fingerprint magnet and is slippery. We recommend getting a case right away.

As of the moment

Huawei MatePad T 10

At only PHP 6,990, the MatePad T 10 offers a metal/glass/polycarbonate build that feels premium and looks good for its price. Aside from that, it even has 2GB RAM, 32GB of storage, stereo speakers, 3.5mm headphone jack, 5,100mAh battery, and USB Type-C.

Its use of the 14nm Kirin 710A SoC is also a major leap coming from the MatePad T5 last year with a slower 16nm 2.36GHz 64-bit Kirin 659 octa-core processor.

Out of the box, our only concern is the 5V1A charger and the peak brightness of the display could be lacking for outdoor use. But for the price, we are just nitpicking.

Aside from those concerns, the Huawei MatePad T 10 looks to be a decent affordable tablet for a wide spectrum of uses.
