Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 could be the foldable smartphone to beat this year

On paper, the handset is a massive step-up coming from the prototype-looking Galaxy Fold last year. The new Fold goes with a much-improved design, beefier internals, modern connectivity features, and an array of new features making it pretty compelling for multitaskers on the go.

This time, the handset features 2 displays. It boasts a 22.5:18 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X Main Screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 25:9 6.2-inch Super AMOLED Cover Screen with a 60Hz refresh rate HD+ resolution. Both screens have slimmer bezels and center-aligned punch-holes (Infinity-O) to house a 10MP f/2.2 selfie camera each. The main display comes with an 11Hz to 120Hz Adaptive refresh rate tech.

Samsung also boasts a new hinge technology called "Hideaway Hinge" and a CAM mechanism that folds from 75 to 115 degrees. It also has a sturdier base when unfolded and an improved sweeper technology to remove dirt and dust on the hinge.

Basically, in the full-screen mode, it works like a tablet. It also has a Flex mode bringing extra flexibility to Cover Screen and Main Screen and a Half folded mode.

The Flex Mode also gives its users extra controls when half folded like if you are watching videos, the other half of the display may show recommended videos.

The South Korean firm also claimed that the device has an improved Multi-Active Window which supports multiple apps to make multitasking and maximize the screens of the smartphone/tablet foldable device.

It also has a screen-to-screen transition experience and Dual Preview where the second screen acts as a preview screen.

Under the hood, the device screams premium and modern. It sports the 3.09GHz 7nm SD865+ SoC, 12GB LPDDR5 RAM, and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. It also has an ample 4,500mAh battery with USB-C fast charging, wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging AKA Wireless PowerShare.

At the back, it uses a trio of 12MP sensors with ultra-wide and telephoto in a Galaxy Note20-like camera island.

It also has an auto-framing feature with machine learning and AI that tracks your movement and frames users automatically.

The device is available in Mystic Black and Mystic Bronze colorways and you can customize the hinge color to Metallic Silver, Metallic Gold, Metallic Blue, and Metallic Red. There is also a Thom Browne version that will retail in other parts of the world on a later date.

The new fold will be available in the Philippines on September 25, 2020, on select Samsung Online Partners. On October 2, it will be available from select Authorized Samsung Stores.

Pre-order starts on September 12 until 24, 2020.

Samsung said that those who will get the Fold2 will get access to the Galaxy Z Premier Service
on-demand concierge support and allowing them to be automatically enrolled in Samsung Care+ with one-time device protection against accidental damage within one year.
