Earlier, realme has announced its new sub PHP 12k contender called the realme 7i. Key features include the 90Hz IPS display, 5,000mah battery, and the rear and front-facing cameras.

At the back are the rear camera module that is made up of a 64MP f/1.8 with PDAF, 8MP f/2.2 119-degree ultra-wide camera, 2MP f/2.4 macro camera and 2MP monochrome camera with LED flash.

The included camera app is robust with camera modes like Photo, Video, Night, Portrait, Expert, 64M, Pano, Time-Lapse, Sticker, Slo-Mo, and Google Lens.

The Photo mode is the basic Auto mode with the ability to switch between cameras and switch between the standard model and the 64MP mode.

While the Portrait mode has control for Bokeh and face smoothening Intensity (0 to 100).

Lastly, the Expert mode allows for controls of ISO (100-6400), Shutter Speed (1/8000s to 32s), White Balance, Focus, and EV (+-2). Expert mode is available in 1x, 2x and 5x zoom.

In video, the main camera and rear cameras can shoot up to 1080p 30fps.

Let's dive in!

realme 7i has given the included camera a robust set of features and it shows. In daylight, the auto white balance between 1x, 2x, 5x and ultra-wide are nearly identical. The sharpness and detail of the ultra-wide and the main rear camera are good. As the 5X is a digital zoom, it is soft even in daylight.

In indoor situations, the story is the same as the main camera. The white balance is accurate and is consistent across all cameras while the main camera 1x zoom is the more detailed images. The ulra-wide camera and the 5x zoom are soft but are usable.

It is good for its price point.

In low light, the realme 7i struggled with all of the rear cameras. The image is soft with strong grain and some inaccurate colors in the sky. This is normal in this price range.

In front is a single 16MP f/2.1 front-facing camera.

In the stock camera app, it includes modes like Selfie Photo, Video, Night, Portrait, Time-Lapse, and Pano. It is one of the more robust selfie modes.

Portrait mode allows for controls for Bokeh, Face smoothening, Thinner Face, Bigger Eyes, Smaller Nose, Chin, Smaller Face, Touch Up, and 3D. All of these have intensity controls from 0-100.

Video capabilities include recording 1080p at 30 fps.

In daylight and indoors, the realme 7i's selfie camera performs really good! The sharpness and detail are strong while the colors are accurate. Contrast is decent too! The edge detection of the portrait mode is mostly good but struggled with Neil's hair and right ear.

In low light selfies, the realme 7i performs variably. If the subject is well lit, then the sharpness, color, and contrast are good. It will struggle in dim environments with strong grain and color inaccuracies.

Quick thoughts

So far, the realme 7i's rear and selfie cameras are good but it didn't give us the wow factor that realme mid-ranger like the realme 6 gave when it first came out. realme has become that good over the few years.

The realme 7i is priced at 11,990 and has strong competition so we will reserve judgement until our full review that will be coming soon!

Stay tuned!

What do you guys think?
