In September of 2020, Samsung confirmed that the existence of the Galaxy A42. Months later, the Korean giant also shared the full specs of the device except for the SoC. On November 13, 2020, the Galaxy A42 5G was listed on the Google Play console with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G SoC. Now in late November 2020, the Galaxy A42 5G silently arrives in the Philippines under Globe Telecom's ThePlan Postpaid subscription.

The variant of the Galaxy A42 5G that arrived in the Philippines features a 6.6-inch Infinity-U HD+ Super AMOLED display. Inside is a massive 5,000mAh battery with 15W fast charging, 6GB RAM, 128GB of storage, Android 10-based OneUI, and an un-named octa-core processor. 

For cameras, it features a 48MP f/1.8 main camera, 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera, 5MP f/2.4 depth camera and a 5MP f/2.4 macro camera while on the notch is the 20MP f/2.2 selfie camera.

Globe Telecom is offering the device with its 'ThePlan' subscription that starts at ThePlan 599 up to ThePlan 2999. For those who are interested, the device becomes FREE if the user avails ThePlan 1799 with a 24-month lock-in contract.

As mentioned above, Google Play Console listed the Galaxy A42 5G with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G but there is no confirmation yet whether the Philippines received the Qualcomm or Exynos chipset. 

As of this article's writing, there was no listing of an equivalent plan and device offering from competing Telco, Smart Communications. We will update the article once it becomes available.

There is no word yet on the official SRP of the Galaxy A42 5G nor is there information if the device will arrive at local retailers or if it's a telco exclusive.
