Carl Pei launches a company called "Nothing"

It is a London-based consumer technology company in partnership with iPod inventor Tony Fadell, Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman, and YouTube Casey Neistat.

This company will create "smart devices" that will be released in the first half of 2021.

On its Twitter page, the company shared that "We rethought everything and came up with #Nothing".

In its press release, the company shared that the company's mission is to "remove barriers between people and technology to create a seamless digital future" and the group believes that the best technology should be beautiful yet natural and intuitive to use.

Carl Pei told The Verge that Nothing plans to release products across multiple categories. The company has an eventual aim of building an ecosystem of devices.

There are speculations that the product will release audio-focused devices.

To differentiate itself from other companies, Nothing will use "custom made" components in its products right from the start. It won't look similar to a lot of its competitors.

Pei also stressed that unlike OnePlus that is associated with BBK, Nothing is entirely independent and owned by its founding team and investors. It even has its own R&D department.

To recap, Carl Pei left OnePlus in October 2020 after seven years to pursue other ventures.
