Globe commits PHP 70 billion for 2021

The 2020 capital expenditure (capex) represented 41 percent of gross revenues and 82 percent of EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization). About 86 percent of the capex went to data-related requirements to meet the growing demands of Filipinos across the country.

Now, Globe expects its 2021 cash capex to balloon to a record-breaking PHP 70 billion. It is going towards the company's effort to do a network roll-out strategy that includes more aggressive cell site builds, upgrade of all its sites to 4G LTE technology, and fast-tracking the fiberization of Filipino homes nationwide. It will also help in Globe's continuous modernization of its network to make 5G and fiber tech available to more areas in PH.

COVID-19 may have had a great impact in 2020, Glove continued to build close to 1,300 new cell sites or cell towers which is an increase of 1,100 from 2019. The company now has a total of 11,256 sites upgraded to 4G LTE.

Globe was also able to deploy 5G sites in Metro Manila, some cities in the Visayas, and Mindanao. 5G is now available in 1,045 areas in the Philippines. Globe's overall Consistency Score via Ookla in Q4 2020 even improved to 60.82 percent from 56.83 percent from Q3 2020.
