Smart shared that its 5G network is now available in all of Metro Manila's 17 cities and municipalities as well as the cities of Angeles and Mabalacat in Pampanga, Bacoor in Cavite, and Binan and Santa Rosa in Laguna.

Aside from those areas, Smart 5G is now available in Cebu, Boracay, Iloilo, and Davao.

Smart also shared that apart from those areas, the company is continuing its 5G rollout nationwide.

As we ramp-up our Smart 5G rollout across Metro Manila and the rest of the country, we are bringing our customers closer to an even higher level of customer experience in terms of enjoying high-definition video, playing eSports and using new digital services, said Alfredo S. Panlilio, Smart Communications President and CEO and PLDT Chief Revenue Officer.

Our 5G future is here, and we are making it simpler for our customers to maximize the country's fastest network—made even faster with 5G, said Jane J. Basas, SVP and Head of Consumer Wireless Business at Smart.

Smart has been conducting tests with 5G starting in 2016.

Also, last year, Smart along with its technology partners Ericsson, Huawei and a leading 5G smartphone vendor, also successfully tested 5G Carrier Aggregation making them the one of the first to test this tech in the Asia Pacific.

This year, PLDT and Smart will invest between PHP 88 billion and 92 billion in capex to further improve its coverage and service.

Smart's 5G network is supported PLDT's fiber infrastructure,  the most extensive in the country with 429,000 kilometers as of December.

Currently, Smart's networks cover 96 percent of the population. It is also present in 95 percent of the cities and municipalities. Its number of base stations also increase to over 59,000 nationwide.

Smart is also planning to rollout 2,000 new cell sites this 2021.
