Network upgrades boost Globe's mobile average download speed

Citing data from Ookla, Globe said its mobile average download speed across all technologies jumped by 22 percent to 16.44 megabits per second (Mbps) versus the 13.50 Mbps recorded a year earlier.

A report from the National Telecommunications Commission backed this claim as evident by the Ayala-led telco's continuous network buildup.

Globe said around 90 percent of its cell towers are now boosted with 4G LTE technology, allowing more subscribers to enjoy faster internet connectivity.

We are seeing the fruits of our massive efforts and investments towards network and service upgrades, and customers are able to feel improvements especially those who have started shifting to or have already moved to 4G LTE, Ernest L. Cu, Globe’s President and Chief Executive Officer was quoted as saying in a statement.

Globe has been urging its subscribers to embrace 4G LTE-ready SIMs to maximize the network's performance.

Globe previously said subscribers may check if they are still using 2G and 3G SIMs by texting SIM CHECK to 8080. If they want to upgrade to 4G LTE SIMs, Globe said they may set an online appointment or through the GlobeOne App before proceeding to the Globe Store for SIM replacement.
