DITO customers now allowed to call, text Globe users

This, as both telcos completed the interconnection of their mobile networks.

Globe, in a statement, said it is also working to finalize the interconnection of fixed landline service with the new player.

This effort is a reflection of Globe’s commitment to fair and healthy competition in the telco industry, as well as its adherence to the rules and regulations prevailing in competition and telecom laws, said Atty. Froilan Castelo, Globe General Counsel.

Interconnection among telco providers is in line with provisions for compulsory interconnection of authorized public telecommunications carriers under Republic Act 7925.

The law aims to create a universally accessible and fully integrated nationwide telecommunications network to encourage more infrastructure investments from the private sector that would benefit the consumers.

In February, DITO also sealed the same deal with Pangilinan-led Smart Communications.

Launched in March, DITO seeks to challenge the dominance of Globe and PLDT. Last week, the company expanded its commercial operations to include some provinces in Luzon.

From the initial 15 areas in Visayas and Mindanao, the company said its mobile services can be accessed to 21 more areas in Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Cebu, and General Santos.
