Google previews Android 12, comes with a reimagined look

It's that time of the year again. Google today revealed that they are releasing the first beta of Android 12.

Android 12 Beta is now official!

In its blog post, Google said that Android 12 includes the biggest design change in Android's history. Google claimed that the group "rethought" the entire experience from colors to shapes, light, and motion making Android 12 more "expressive, dynamic, and personal" than ever.

For Pixels devices on Android 12, the users will be able to completely personalize their phones using a custom color palette and redesigned widgets. Called color extraction, the users will be able to choose the wallpaper and the system will automatically determine which colors are dominant and complementary. Then, it will apply to the entire system from the notification shade, lock screen, volume controls, new widgets, and more.

Google said that the work is done with deep collaboration between its software, hardware, and Material Design teams. This design language is called "Material You".

Google also added fluid motion and animations. Android claimed that the user will feel how it comes alive with every tap, swipe, and scroll as your phone will quickly respond with your touch with smooth motion and animation.

One example is after dismissing notifications on the lock screen, the clock will appear larger indicating you are done with that task.

The company also noted that it has simplified interactions and recrafted the entire system to make the experience more fluid and efficient while being faster and more power-efficient. It is said to reduce the CPU time needed for the services by up to 22 percent and reduces the use of big cores by the system server by up to 15 percent.

Android 12 also has a redesigned system space with a crisp and glance view of your app notifications. There is a new "Quick Settings" function to allow users to control the entire OS with a swipe and tap.

For security, Android 12 promises to give users more transparency around which apps are accessing your data and more controls allowing users to make informed choices about how much private information your apps can access.

Android 12 has a new Privacy Dashboard that offers a single view into your permissions settings as well. There is a new indicator on the top right of the status bar to know if your apps are accessing your microphone or camera.

Google said that they are also building privacy protection directly into the OS to keep its users' personal information whether private or local to your phone safe.

The Android 12 Beta is now available on Pixel devices and other devices from ASUS, OnePlus, OPPO, realme, Sharp, TECNO, TCL, vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE.
