MediaTek to invest more in the flagship chip department, 4nm SoCs are coming

During its Philippine Virtual Coffee Sessions earlier, MediaTek confirmed that the company is investing more in the flagship chip department and 4nm SoCs are coming.

MediaTek 4nm premium chips are coming!

MediaTek hasn't divulged much information about the upcoming 4nm SoC yet, but the top chip vendor stressed that it will be a very powerful chip.

An earlier report from MoneyUDN shared that the chipmaking giant will be one of the first firms to place an order with TSMC for 4nm based chips and even 3nm based chips.

To recap, the company's current premium SoCs are the 6nm Dimensity 1200 and Kompanio 1300T. Dimensity 1200 is arguably the best chip for premium mid-range smartphones, but benchmarks show that it still lags against the 5nm flagship chips in the market today.

This move suggests that the company will go all out to battle Apple and Qualcomm in the high-end chip segment soon.

During the session, MediaTek also stressed that they invested around 3 billion dollars in R&D this year. Its high-end chips are expected to benefit a lot from the said investment.

Apart from chips for mobile devices, the Taiwanese chip giant will soon release new solutions for TVs and AIoTs soon.
