Build Quality/Design

Out of the box, the OnePlus Nord 2 is eye-catching and beautiful. Upon closer inspection, we noticed that the Nord 2 is made up of metal, glass, and polycarbonate.

OnePlus was smart in that it picked furnishings with metal components the following: metal oblong camera bump, metal volume rocker, metal power button, and textured metal alert slider.

As mentioned above, the screen protector with punch hole cut-out is pre-installed on it.

The SIM tray can house up to 2 nano-SIM cards only. It does not have a microSD card slot.

The tray also features a red rubber gasket for water resistance.

Premium-looking materials!

It measures 158.9 x 73.2 x 8.25mm and weighs 189 grams. The curved polycarbonate frame and curved back panel make the phone easier to hold. However, the front and back panel are slippery and are fingerprint magnets. Out of the box, we already have smudges from both the back and front panels.

In front is the aforementioned 6.43-inch Fluid AMOLED display with 2400 x 1080 resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. It is bright and can produce vibrant and detailed images. There is a punch hole for the front-facing camera on the top left side.

Beautiful display!

Around the display are slim bezels with the chin bezel being thicker than the rest. On top of the panel is the super slim earpiece.

On top, is a microphone while at the bottom are the speaker grille, USB-C port, microphone, and the SIM tray. As mentioned earlier, it only holds up two Nano-SIMs and it features a red rubber gasket.
Left and right side
Left and right side

On the left side is the metal volume rocker while on the right side are the textured metal alert slider and the metal power button. At first, I thought the metal trimmings were made of polycarbonate but I wasn't sure. So I decided to press against the side of the volume rocker, power button, and textured alert slider.

All three did not bend and were giving off a solid metal resistance to any pressure I add to its side.

At the back is the 50MP f/1.8 main camera, 8MP f/2.25 119-degree ultra-wide-angle camera, 2MP monochrome camera, and a dual-tone LED flash. If you look closely, the protruding oblong camera bump is actually made of textured metal.
AnTuTu score in High-Performance mode

In High-Performance mode, the OnePlus Nord 2 and it's MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI octa-core processor managed to score over 676,432 in AnTuTu Version 9.0.12-OB. This is a super impressive score given that the Nord 2 starts at only PHP 21,990!

If users want the best possible performance, we recommend turning this feature on as before we got this score, we were only on normal mode where it scored around 582K. To save battery, OnePlus may be throttling the performance of specific apps.

Other features include Face Unlock and an optical-type of In-display fingerprint scanner. Both were easy to set up and works as they should. The phone is 5G capable but we were not able to test it yet.

Stay tuned for our full review, camera samples, and the rest of the features of the new smartphone.

As of the moment

Slender design
Slender design

OnePlus Nord 2 is looking to be one of the most compelling smartphones for the PHP 21,990 starting price tag!

The design and build are unique, solid, and smart. The phone looks and feels hefty and premium while being lightweight. What impressed us is the intelligent use of metal material for select parts like the camera bump, volume rocker, power button, and alert slider.

It also features powerful specs like the 90Hz Fluid AMOLED panel, Dimensity 1200-AI octa-core processor, LPDDR4X RAM, UFS 3.1, and the monstrous 50MP main camera with OIS.

So far, we are excited to test the phone and see how it performs in real life. Stay tuned for our full review coming soon!
