Over 120 lenses!?

Digital imaging solutions leader Canon USA Inc. has announced that the company will provide hardware and technical assistance to Project Dragonfly, an international research team from Yale University and the University of Toronto, in its plan to expand the Dragonfly Telephoto Array.

The Dragonfly Telephoto Array is a telescope array equipped with multiple-large super-telephoto single focal length lenses. This telescope was designed in 2013 by Project Dragonfly. It is capable of capturing images of galaxies that are so faint and large that they had escaped detection by even the largest conventional telescopes.

The company will provide the project with 120 Canon EF 400 f/2.8L IS II USM large-aperture super-telephoto single-focal length lenses along with technical assistance. The additional 120 telephoto lenses would result in over 168 lenses in total for the telescope array.

To recap, the EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II USM is a large-aperture high-performance telephoto lens with built-in image stabilization. It features a magnesium alloy body that is both tough and lightweight. It is weather resistant that can withstand harsh environmental conditions.

In the United States, the Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II USM is priced at USD 11,999 (or around PHP 606K).

Update: In the Philippines, the Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM has an SRP of PHP 586,998.
