The new chipset is the successor to last year's Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 model. The new 8cx Gen 3 is based on the 5nm platform and is designed for Windows devices. The company claims that the processor offers 85 percent improvement in CPU performance and 60 percent faster GPU performance.

It offers support for Qualcomm's Snapdragon X55, X62 and the X65 5G modems. It also features the Qualcomm Spectra ISP which offers better AF, better white balance, and better auto-exposure for video conferencing. The ISP also supports up to four 24MP cameras and supports 4K HDR video capture at up to 30fps.

The processor also now supports UFS 3.1 storage for faster read and write speeds. Built-in is the Qualcomm Voice Suite which features Qualcomm's Noise and Echo Cancellation technology that cancel out unwanted environmental sounds.

Qualcomm even claims that the new chipset is able to yield 'multi-day battery life' but gave no further details.

Devices with the new chipset are expected to arrive in the first half of 2022.

GizmoChina also says that reports say that Qualcomm is working on next generation of chips for Windows PC designed by Nuvia. Nuvia was acquired by the company last year and will be designing chips that can compete with Apple Silicon.
