Xiaomi donates USD 200,000 (around PHP 10M) to victims of Typhoon Rai (Odette)

Xiaomi Corporation today shared to team GIZGUIDE that the company is donating monetary assistance to those affected by Typhoon Rai in the Philippines and Malaysia.

Through its beneficiaries, the Chinese tech giant will donate USD 100,000 (around PHP 5.1M) to each country.

World Vision Philippines and Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia will receive the money from Xiaomi Foundation Limited to support those affected by Typhoon Rai.

In total, the company will donate USD 200,000 which is around PHP 10M out of straight conversion.

Also known as Odette, Typhoon Rai has impacted more than 70,334 families or 23,380,167 individuals. 348,642 houses have been damaged as well. 

Until now, hundreds and thousands of volunteers are working around the clock to help those affected and to provide survival essentials such as food and water, hygiene kits, kitchen and cooking sets, emergency shelter kits, and more.

Xiaomi said that as a global company, it is their "duty to be responsible and to give back to communities impacted by situations such as this".
