Filipino children are "extremely interested" in video content

An international cybersecurity company, YouTube and TikTok were the most popular mobile applications among Filipino youth between January and March of this year.

Kaspersky did an analysis of data from anonymous users regarding search queries, the most famous Android applications, and website categories during that period.

Statistics from the cybersecurity company show that the top five applications young Pinoy kids are spending the time most on are YouTube with 26.46 percent followed by TikTok with 16.75 percent.

The messaging app Facebook Messenger landed the 3rd sport with 16.07 percent then online game Roblox came fourth with 13.67 percent. Facebook got the fifth spot with 9.11 percent.

According to Kaspersky, the search activity of children is the "best indicator of their interests", adding that with the data, parents are now given a better understanding of their kids’ current favorite passions and topics. Managing Director for the Asia Pacific at Kaspersky Sandra Lee explained later,

As one of the world’s most active digital citizens, it is no surprise that Filipino children are enthusiastic explorers of the digital world themselves. Although have not gone back physically to school since the pandemic, I understand that the majority of these kids are relying on the Internet not just for study but also for play and entertainment, most likely because of remote learning blues.

Lee added that the company is pushing parents to stay informed and commit to sitting down with their kids extensively as it’s an effective way to keep their children responsible and safe digital citizens.

Other remarkable applications in the list included the Chrome browser (6.39 percent), YouTube Kids (3.54 percent), Netflix (3.08 percent), online first-person shooter game Call of Duty (2.56 percent), and mobile multiplayer online battle arena game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (2.37 percent).

For worldwide rankings,  YouTube is still at the top with 31.6 percent then TikTok follows at 19 percent. However, WhatsApp is in the 3rd spot at 18 percent trailed by Roblox at 7.5 percent, and Google Chrome at 7.3 percent.
