REDMI 17 5G launched: UNISOC T8300 chip, 6.9-inch LCD, and 6,300mAh battery

Xiaomi introduced the REDMI 17 5G in China, positioning it as its newest budget offering.

The device is built around long battery life, a large high-refresh-rate display, and contemporary connectivity, and arrives running Xiaomi's latest software.

In terms of design, the phone comes in three color options: Cold Mist Blue, Star Rock Black, and Feather Mist White. It measures 171.56 x 79.47 x 8.15mm and weighs 210 grams.

On the front, the REDMIi 17 5G sports a 6.9-inch HD+ LCD panel with a waterdrop notch and a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels. The display supports a 120Hz refresh rate, touch sampling of up to 240Hz, DC dimming, and peak brightness of 800 nits globally. It also holds TÜV Rheinland triple eye protection certification and features Wet Touch 2.0 for better responsiveness when the screen is wet.

The design

Powering the device is a 2.2GHz 6nm Unisoc T8300 octa-core chipset paired with 4GB or 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. A dedicated microSD slot allows for further storage expansion.

Battery duties are handled by a 6,300mAh cell that Xiaomi states is engineered to maintain its health over four years of use. Charging is capped at 15W wired, with 7.5W wired reverse charging also supported, alongside PD and QC charging protocols.

For imaging, the REDMI 17 5G is equipped with a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera for selfies and video calls.

Additional features include a USB Type-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

On the connectivity front, the device supports WiFi 5 (2.4GHz/5GHz) and Bluetooth 5.4, GPS, and dual SIM.

Rounding things out, the REDMI 17 5G ships out of the box with Xiaomi HyperOS 3.

It is currently available in China. No word yet on a PH release at the moment.
