Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 undergoes JerryRigEverything's brutal durability test

Did the Z Fold8 survive?

Launched recently, the new Galaxy foldable introduced a new titanium inner screen substrate. Yet, Samsung still includes warnings against fingernail pressure, screen protector removal, and hard impacts.

Zach began with the scratch tests, which left scratches on the outer cover display at hardness level 6 (01:49) and left scratches on the inner folding screen at level 2 (02:16). 

Zach then tested the Armor Aluminum frame. In classic Samsung fashion, the physical volume buttons can be pried out of the metal frame and snapped back into place (03:48). Surrounding the 50MP cameras, Samsung used a plastic plateau on the back glass panel, even though the individual lens rings remain metal (04:43).

What impressed us was that the re-engineered, wider, and flatter hinges successfully prevented debris from infiltrating the internal mechanisms (05:40) even when dirt and fine gunk were sprinkled directly into the hinge and into the folding screen.

Even after severe direct scratching on the side-mounted capacitive power button, the fingerprint reader unlocked the phone with instantaneous response times (06:14).

Zach then used a lighter and exposed the inner 7.6-inch display to fire, which resulted in permanent pixel burn marks within 7 seconds (06:35). The outer screen held up for 10 seconds before turning permanently black and green (06:57).

Lastly, Zach forcibly bent the unfolded foldable from the top and bottom sides (07:08), and it showed almost zero flex. He then unfolded the device into tablet mode and applied pressure backwards against the hinge (08:01), and it did not snap and was successfully folded (08:10).

Samsung's engineering once again proves that its foldable line is built to last. It is worth noting that the inner screen remains susceptible to scratches due to its plastic top layer; the Galaxy Z Fold8 stands out and is one of the more resilient folding devices.
