We recently played several popular mobile games on the new Infinix NOTE 12 G96 and this is what we experienced.

Beautiful wave pattern

But before we dive in, let's take a look at the key specs. It has a large FHD+ 6.7-inch True Color AMOLED screen, 12nm MediaTek Helio G96 SoC, 8GB RAM, 128GB/256GB of storage, and a 5,000mAh battery with 33W Flash Charge.

The price starts at PHP 8,999 for the 128GB variant while the 256GB model retails for just PHP 9,999. They even have an ongoing promo at Shopee and Lazada where you can get the device for less.

Anyway, these are some of the most attractive specs under PHP 10K that could be great for gaming.

Let's dive in.

Good gaming for under 10K?

The phone is made of a combination of high-quality polycarbonate and glass. This results in a solid but surprisingly lightweight body. The back panel has a unique wave pattern design with the large camera module and the Infinix branding. The frame has a faux metal finish while the front panel has a pre-installed screen protector. Unfortunately, the front panel is prone to fingerprint smudges.

But overall, it made the phone comfortable to hold.

In front is a 6.7-inch True Color AMOLED screen with 2400 x 1080 resolution that is surprisingly sharp and vibrant. This is a big deal as there are very few smartphones with a high-quality AMOLED screen under PHP 10K. It is not a fast refresh rate panel but it is more than enough to enjoy consuming media and playing most games.

Let's not forget that this is also one of the few smartphones in its price range with stereo speakers which will help with games that take advantage of directional audio.

At the core are the ever-reliable and powerful (for the price) 12nm MediaTek Helio G96 octa-core processor with the Mali-G57 MC2 GPU and 8GB LPDDR4X RAM. Powering all of this is a large 5,000mAh battery with a 33W Flash Charge.

The 5,000mAh battery capacity even allowed us to play games for a long number of hours even if we do not have a power bank on our side. Charging is also fast

Note that it even has + 5GB extended RAM, but this mainly affects multitasking and background apps, not the game directly.

To make the experience even more immersive, the company has also added a Linear Motor Tactile System which offers a variety of haptic feedback and vibrational techniques depending on the usage scenario.

This even has the company's Dar-link 2.0 technology designed to learn the usage patterns to optimize battery, temperature, and memory to maximize gameplay performance. And we think it works.
PUBG graphics settings
PUBG graphics settings

The first game we played on the new smartphone is PUBG Mobile. In this game, the phone managed to unlock the HD graphics settings with the frame rate set in high. This is expected for the Helio G96. In our experience with the gameplay, the phone manages to run the game smoothly and consistently even after two hours of continuous play. The phone did begin to warm up but it never got hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold.

We also tried Mobile Legends where the phone managed to unlock the high graphics setting with a high refresh rate setting. Like in PUBG, the phone runs the game smoothly and is consistent even after two hours of continuous play. It didn't warm up as much as it did PUBG though.

We also tried the device to run heavy games like Genshin Impact and it is playable at mostly low settings. This is a big deal as even some pricier phones in the under 15K range struggle with this game even at low settings. It tends to get warm faster in this game, but the heat is still manageable. This is more than decent for the price.

The decent thermal management that the phone provided is due to its use of a 10-layer Graphene Cooling System. According to the company, this can reduce core temperatures by up to 6 degrees Celsius.

Our thoughts

Genshin Impact
Genshin Impact

The Infinix NOTE 12 G96 is an incredible value because of the MediaTek Helio G96, True Color FHD+ AMOLED screen, stereo speakers, and the 128GB/256GB of storage. You will almost never find a phone under PHP 10K with these specs.

Even though the panel wasn't a fast refresh rate panel, it never got in the way of our gaming experience as the panel was sharp, vibrant, and responsive. The stereo speakers also helped as we were able to clearly hear the direction of the footsteps or gunshots which helped us identify the location of the enemy.

And even after playing for several hours, the phone never got uncomfortably hot. The data and WiFi connection never dropped in our experience too.

Lastly, the large 5,000mAh battery allowed us to play continuously for hours while the 33W Flash Charge let us charge quickly and get back to playing after just an hour of charging.

Overall, the Infinix NOTE 12 G96 is a great option for people looking for an affordable gaming phone with large storage and stereo speakers that can double as a media consumption device.
