Ookla: Faster PH internet recorded in May

Filipino consumers witnessed faster internet speed in May, according to the latest Ookla Speedtest Global Index Rankings.
PH mobile and fixed broadband internet continues to improve

Based on the latest data from Ookla, Smart is the Philippines' "fastest mobile operator"

In its report, the Philippines secured the 91st rank based on median download speeds for mobile data, four notches higher than the previous record.

The country also inched up to 58th for fixed broadband connections.

Ookla said the Philippines' mobile download speed stood at 19.26 megabits per second (Mbps), while its upload speed reached 5.46 Mbps, as of May.

Fixed broadband connections also logged better figures in the period with a download speed of 60.09 Mbps and 56.44 Mbps for upload speed.

The company also said PLDT's wireless arm Smart Communications was the "fastest mobile operator" in the first quarter with a median download speed of 24.07 Mbps. DITO came second with 16.96 Mbps, faster than Globe's 15.25 Mbps.

In terms of the telcos' 5G performance, Smart still topped the race with 200.43 Mbps download speed, a significant lead from Globe's 121.29 Mbps.
