8K recording on an APS-C mirrorless camera?

FUJIFILM expands the X-series of APS-C mirrorless cameras with the new X-H2. It features a new Back-illuminated 40.2MP X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor with the X-Processor 5. This combination enables the camera to capture high-resolution stills as well as to be the world's first APS-C camera with 8K at 30fps Apple ProRes internal recording.

It now has a lower minimum ISO of 125 and a maximum shutter speed of 1/180,000 sec with the electronic shutter. Another new feature is the 160MP Pixel Shift Multi-shot which uses the IBIS mechanism to 'shift' the sensor to capture 20 images with a single shutter to generate a 160MP image.

The new high-resolution stills-focused camera supports HEIF image format which delivers 10-bit image quality up to 30 percent smaller than the standard JPEG.

Aside from being able to record 8K Apple Pro Res 422 HQ, ProRes 422, and ProRes 422 Lt, the camera also supports recording of ProRess 422 Proxy. This reduces the 8K video editing workload and streamlines the overall workflow from the filming to post-production.

The 40.2MP sensor also allows the camera to deliver up to 2x of digital zoom with no loss in resolution when recording 4K video with a prime lens. When the camera is paired with the new XF18-120 F4 LM PZ WR can get twice the reach and seamlessly transition to the digital zoom function when the lens reaches its maximum focal length.

The camera can be paired with an Atomos or Black Magic Design HDMI recorder, it can output 12-bit RAW video in either AppleProRes RAW or BlackMagic RAW at up to 8K at 30fps.

The camera saves all of those images and footage to the CFexpress Type B memory card slot and the UHS-II SD card memory card slot.

FUJIFILM claims that the new X-Processor 5's new subject detection AF based on Deep Learning technology can detect and track a broad range of subjects including animals, cars, birds, motorcycles, bicycles, aeroplanes and trains. The new sensor also has a greater number of Phase Detection pixels which improves the Autofocus in both stills and video recording.

The body is protected with 79 weather-sealed points that provide high level of dust and moisture resistance while allowing it to operate in temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius.
